GLENDA’S HEALTH AUGUST 16th 2010

You will recall in our newsletter of July 2010 in which I reported on Glenda’s health situation as follows:

“Glenda's neck pain has continued to escalate.  The spasm it sends to her hand has been frightening.  Nathanael, our son, arranged for us to see a neurologist who did an MRI scan to show exactly what is happening underneath.  The scan revealed that at the base of the back side of Glenda's skull is a congenital situation which has caused a build up of arthritis within the area.  The main cause of the spasm was said to be cervical cord compression of the C4 and C5 vertebrae.  The fear of the specialist is that if nothing is done, the situation could lead to the paralysis of the arms in the future.  We have an appointment with the neurosurgeon on the 10th of August.  He is in the position of giving a second opinion as well as saying exactly what we should do.  The neurologist is recommending surgery which he said is the only lasting solution.  The cost implication is what I hate to think about.”

She met with the neurosurgeon as scheduled on the 10th of August and the surgeon recommended that surgery be carried out immediately on her C4 and C5 vertebrae. As for the congenital problem identified below the cerebrum the surgeon said that this cannot be handled surgically as it is too risky, and it cannot be ascertained if the worst pain is coming from there or not. Meanwhile, the surgery on the vertebrae is slated for Friday 20th August. The cost implication of the surgery is not known yet.

With the above scenarios, I am therefore, soliciting for your intense prayers for God’s intervention.

I will keep you informed of developments. Our earlier plan to return to Nigeria on the 20th of August is now obviously cancelled.
