The Supplementary School provides learning support to needy children in deprived areas of South London.
Students are assisted in Maths, English and Science in a rented Community Youth Hall. Rather than providing a parallel education, children from ages 5 to 16 are assisted with understanding their schoolwork and with homework assignments. Each student is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Volunteer workers first assess students understanding of what they have been taught so far at school and focus on their weak points. Each student receives individual attention.
Many of the students have shown marked improvements in their work at school, and one of the former students has now returned to the centre as a volunteer teacher.
The Supplementary Schools currently help over 20 students.
